On Day 1a of the WPT Prime Cyprus Main Event, there were 190 players seated at the start of play, with the number of entrants eventually topping out at 340. For Day 1b, things were slightly different with less than half that amount seated to begin Level 1. However, the poker room at Chamada Prestige Hotel & Casino soon filled up, with eventually 334 entries joining the action. 42 players from Day 1b have now joined the 43 from Day 1a, with just two more flights remaining.

WPT Returning to Montreal for CAD $1.5M Guaranteed WPT Playground Festival

Just months after the successful WPT Championship festival at Playground in Montreal, the World Poker Tour announced it will return to Montreal this fall. The WPT Playground festival will take place Oct. 14-30 and will culminate with a CAD $3,500 buy-in WPT Playground Championship event offering a guarantee of CAD $1.5 million. Additionally, the series will feature highlights, including the WPT Prime Cup and the WPT 500 Championship. “It was such a pleasure hosting a WPT Championship festival at Playground back in May, that we embraced the idea of returning for a second 2024 showing,” WPT CEO Adam Pliska said in a press release.

Hill’s passing was especially tragic for his family as just a few days earlier his son-in-law, Nic Haug, passed away unexpectedly.

A former waitress at an illegal underground poker club in Connecticut told the U.S. Sun she had no involvement in a botched armed robbery attempt that ended with both robbers being shot to death. Bridgeport police, however, tell a different story, claiming that Shanica Merced assisted in plotting to rob her place of work. The 35-year-old was arrested last week on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery in the first degree and illegal gambling, both felonies.

WPT Pivotal to Poker Popularity in Cyprus says Chamada Head of Poker Ali Alpsaran

The World Poker Tour heads to Cyprus later this month for a WPT Prime festival, featuring a $1,000,000 GTD Main Event at Chamada Prestige Hotel & Casino. A relatively new live poker destination, Chamada has been running poker festivals since 2021 but this is the first time they’ve partnered with a major operator to bring the WPT back to Cyprus for the first time in a decade. PokerNews spoke with Ali Alpsaran, Head of Chamada Poker, about his personal connection to the World Poker Tour and what players can expect from the festival at the end of August.

The series is highlighted by the NAPT Las Vegas Main Event, which has a $5,300 buy-in.
