Action of the Day

The tenth of 15 Circuit events attracted a field of 89 entrants to generate a prize pool of $21,805, smashing the $15,000 guarantee. Early chip leader Kelly Van Haren seemed on fire early in the day as she maintained the chip lead heading into the three and two table redraw. Eliminations were rapid as play went hand for hand with two tables waiting for the bubble to burst. Andrea Martin was the unfortunate lady as she fell just out of the money with her suited ace.

From this point all remaining players were guaranteed at least a min-cash of $510 CAD. The eliminations were rapid-fire from that point, Vanderwoude scored an elimination as well as some pots to maintain a middling stack heading into the final table. Yuxin Liu, Khaly Dang, and Linda Huard all sat in close proximity for the chip lead entering the final table.

The Final Table

Vanderwoude couldn’t find any eliminations but was able to chip up to third with seven players remaining. Early chip leader Van Haren was next eliminated as multiple short stacks were fighting for payout jumps. Vanderwoude quickly found a double when she got it all in with pocket eights. There was almost no sweat when she hit an eight on the turn having her opponent drawing dead.

Yuxin LiuShe continued her rise eliminating Yuxin Liu to be the first player with over 1,000,000 chips in the tournament. Places six through four all fell to Vanderwoude as she seemed unstoppable. At this point she had over half the chips in play accumulated. However, Korak would double through her to take the chip lead and leave Vanderwoude vulnerable.

Vanderwoude battled back first eliminating Dang to even out the chip stacks between her and Korak. They both agreed on an even money chop playing for the ring as the sole prize for first. Vanderwoude continued winning small pots as this important detail set her up to win the event. She narrowly held the chip lead as her and Korak got it all in preflop. She made a pair of kings on the flop and held to close the tournament out. Both players were super friendly with each other as they laughed and took pictures together.
