It’s Day 1b of the WPT Prime Cyprus Main Event, and after speaking with Matt Savage yesterday about how WPT Prime allows players to combine poker with the opportunity to travel the world, we found one player doing precisely that. Italian Priamo Carta notched the biggest result of his career earlier this year, winning the WPT Prime San Remo Main Event and he’s now in action here at the Chamada Prestige Hotel & Casino.

Hustler Casino Live’s Thursday night stream wasn’t an ordinary non-Friday poker game. Two pots cracked $500,000 during the six-hour session, one involving a player who hit quads and earned maximum value. The $200/$400 ($400 big blind ante) no-limit hold’em cash game featured some familiar faces to those who watch the popular livestream from Hustler Casino in Los Angeles. That included the loose and entertaining Peter, HCL co-owner Ryan Feldman, poker vlogger Mariano Grandoli, and a new player to the game who goes by the name Max.

With a lofty $1,000,000 guarantee, the WPT Prime Cyprus Main Event was always going to attract a healthy field. The $1,100 buy-in tournament is the first on the island, as the tour continues to expand to new destinations, offering the same World Poker Tour experience, regardless of buy-in. The first of four starting flights got underway yesterday with a whopping 340 entrants — more than a third of what is needed to reach the guarantee.

Just months after the successful WPT Championship festival at Playground in Montreal, the World Poker Tour announced it will return to Montreal this fall. The WPT Playground festival will take place Oct. 14-30 and will culminate with a CAD $3,500 buy-in WPT Playground Championship event offering a guarantee of CAD $1.5 million. Additionally, the series will feature highlights, including the WPT Prime Cup and the WPT 500 Championship. “It was such a pleasure hosting a WPT Championship festival at Playground back in May, that we embraced the idea of returning for a second 2024 showing,” WPT CEO Adam Pliska said in a press release.

Adrian Mateos added to his 2024 GPI Player of the Year lead on Thursday by taking down Super High Roller Series Cyprus Event #6: $25,750 No-Limit Hold’em Mystery Bounty for $162,000, and another $165,000 in bounties. The Spanish poker legend wasn’t the biggest winner in the tournament, however. Phil Ivey, who ended up in second place following a three-way all in to finish off the tournament, won $413,000 total thanks to the $300,000 worth of mystery bounties he collected.

Tiffany Michelle shared a hand history on X from the Arizona State Poker Championships at Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale. That isn’t the full story, though. PokerStars have revealed details of this year’s World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) festival, the 23rd installment of the historic flagship series. With over $80 million in guaranteed prize pools, the festival sees 379 tournaments spread across the traditional three separate tiers: Low, Medium, and High. Buy-ins range from $5.50 to $25,000, and 12 World Championship events offer players a chance at further glory in various disciplines. There’s also more than ever to look forward to with the introduction of the WCOOP League, Silver and Gold Power Path bundles, and added prizes for Women’s events.

Amateur poker’s premium live festival, the Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) World Championship Of Amateur Poker (WCOAP), kicked off over the weekend atDusk Till Dawn, Nottingham. Every entrant wants to win their respective event not only to give their bankrolls a cash injection but also because each champion receives a coveted gold APAT medal and a commemorative WCOAP bracelet. The 2024 WCOAP is still in its infancy, but three events have concluded, crowned their champions, and dished out their much sought-after APAT hardware.

Before this month’s World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Graton stop, Andreas Kniep had been heads-up for a Circuit ring three times without ever being able to close out. The German-turned-Californian can now boast a Circuit ring after taking down Event #5: $600 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed for $15,907. Kniep, a Google software engineer and former SpaceX engineer who best known for his deep run in the 2021 WSOP Main Event and fourth-place finish in the 2023 Millionaire Maker for $501,182, topped a field of 120 runners and defeated heads-up opponent Pedro Green.

The poker community received sad news recently that Wisconsin’s Alexander Hill, who final tabled the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Seniors Event two years ago, died due to complications with cancer. “The poker community and his poker buddies meant so, so much to him,” Hill’s son, Alex Kestrel, wrote in a social media post. Hill’s passing was especially tragic for his family as just a few days earlier his son-in-law, Nic Haug, passed away unexpectedly.

The folks at Grosvenor Casinos are just about recovered from the massive 2024 Goliath festival that saw William Watkins turn £200 into £166,058 after a nine-way deal at the final table earlier this month. That well-deserved rest is about to be broken with the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Luton festival rapidly approaching. The 2024 GUKPT Luton festival runs from September 11 through September 23 at the Grosvenor G Casino on Park Street West.

Episode 4 of 888poker’s exciting docuseries sees the Team 888poker members return to the Horseshoe and Pris Las Vegas for Day 2 of the $10,000 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. Five team members sat down at their respective tables, but only three of them progressed to Day 3. All but YouTube sensation Jack “JaackMaate” Dean entered the mix with decent stacks; Dean had exactly 30,000 chips, or half of the starting stack.

The World Poker Tour continued to live up to its global moniker, with another Prime Championship in the books after a two-week visit to Taipei City in Taiwan. The headline event of the series, the WPT Prime Taiwan Championship, was a massive success. It became the largest field size for a live poker event in Taiwan with a $1,000 or higher buy-in. It also set the attendance record for the Prime Championship Event outside of the Las Vegas-based WPT World Championship.

A former waitress at an illegal underground poker club in Connecticut told the U.S. Sun she had no involvement in a botched armed robbery attempt that ended with both robbers being shot to death. Bridgeport police, however, tell a different story, claiming that Shanica Merced assisted in plotting to rob her place of work. The 35-year-old was arrested last week on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery in the first degree and illegal gambling, both felonies.

The fourth season of the North American Poker Tour (NAPT) run by Pokerstars is well underway and the action only continues to heat up with the recent schedule release for its marquee stop in Las Vegas. Running from Friday November 1st through Sunday November 10th at Resorts World Las Vegas, the series is not one to miss as it features a whopping 36 tournaments in the span of a week and a half.

Since announcing the upcoming North American Poker Tour (NAPT) Las Vegas festival taking place Nov. 1-10, PokerStars has given players several opportunities to win Gold Pass packages valued at $10,000. The $1,050 buy-in WCOOP Boot Camp Main Event drew in 502 entrants to PokerStars, and Sweden’s Simon “C. Darwin2” Mattsson outlasted them all. Mattsson added $76,031 to his online poker tournament lifetime winnings of over $35 million after coming out on top of the star-studded field. The $1,050 Main Event’s 502-strong field was cut to only 38 on Day 1, with the surviving players returning to the battlefield on August 19.

Jennifer Tilly, as has often been the case during Season 13, was the star of the show on High Stakes Poker’s newest episode. But she’d find herself in need of a two-outer against Andrew Robl or lose what turned out to be the largest pot of the current season. Episode 4 featured some huge pots, one that exceeded $600,000, and multiple others that cracked $200,000 in a $400/$800 no-limit hold’em cash game on PokerGO.

Women in Poker Hall of Famer Kathy Liebert won her latest poker trophy and added to her nearly $7 million in live earnings this month as she took down the Wynn Signature Series Ladies Event at Wynn Las Vegas for $5,806. Liebert, wearing her favorite color purple, topped a field of 41 runners in the $300 buy-in event, with those who cashed including California’s Coletta Ray (5th - $1,320) and Nevadans Amy Wingate (4th - $1,800), Marjorie Dacko ($2,512) and runner-up Lisa Childers, a longtime grinder who earned $3,562 for her runner-up finish.

Australian superstar Michael “imluckbox” Addamo helped himself to an $87,884 payday this weekend by triumphing in the WCOOP Boot Camp edition of the $5,200 No-Limit Hold’em Titans Event at PokerStars. Robbi Jade Lew will make a reality TV appearance Monday night on the new USA Network show, The Anonymous, a competition in which the players compete to potentially win up to $100,000. The Los Angeles poker player is one of 12 contestants competing on the reality game show. She spoke with PokerNews last month during the Variety Children’s charity poker tournament, hosted by Jamie Gold, at Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles to discuss her appearance on the show.

Online poker player and Circuit ring winner Dan Sewnig passed away earlier this week at the age of 33. Sewnig, who played under the handles “mj23style" and “RedsoxNets5”, amassed over a million in online earnings and was recognized as one of the best online poker players in New Jersey. Reports of Sewnig’s death made their way on social media on Saturday, including an obituary stating that he passed on Aug. 13.

The World Poker Tour heads to Cyprus later this month for a WPT Prime festival, featuring a $1,000,000 GTD Main Event at Chamada Prestige Hotel & Casino. Matt Snook, who crossed off a bucket list item of playing in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) just one month ago, passed away after a year-long battle with cancer. He was not only terminally ill at the time, but wasn’t feeling very well when he sat down to play.

Following the successful return of the North American Poker Tour (NAPT) in Las Vegas last year, PokerStars announced in May that the NAPT will return to Resorts World, Las Vegas, this November for another ten-day poker extravaganza. Continuing the excitement from previous events, the platform is once again seeking a new group of Loose Cannons, as the festival will film additional episodes of The Big Game on Tour.
