Sean Perry Quits HCL Poker Game After $150K Loss
Sean Perry’s return to high-stakes poker was quick and costly on Wednesday’s Hustler Casino Live.
The self-proclaimed sports betting guru lasted less than four hours before losing his entire $150,000 buy-in. Perry, who has nearly $7 million in live tournament cashes, according to The Hendon Mob, made his first appearance on Hustler Casino Live. He took a last-minute flight to Los Angeles earlier in the day, an expensive trip.
Perry’s Return to Poker Ends Poorly
Perry, the son of old-school poker player Ralph Perry, is a polarizing figure in the sports betting and poker industries. Many high-stakes poker pros have criticized the way he makes bold claims about crushing the sportsbooks when selling sports betting picks. But he does have an audience, which led to a higher-than-usual Wednesday night viewership on Hustler Casino Live.
The former poker pro had a strong start in what was initially a $25/$50/$100 no-limit hold’em cash game, and was up more than $20,000 within the first hour. He then paid off a $13,000 bet on the river with 8*♥7♦* on a board of 5*♠J♠8♠7♠Q♥, but ran into Tan’s A♥K♠* to lose a $46,100 pot, and it was mostly downhill from there.
The game, thanks to Perry’s desire to play as big as possible, evolved into a $200/$400 cash game with a $400 big blind ante. Perry didn’t last long at those stakes, however, much of that due to one six-figure pot.
Action started with poker vlogger Mariano Grandoli raising to $1,000 from an early position with K*♠J♥. Henry, in the lowjack with J♦4♠* (aka “The Robbi”), called. Perry, who looked down at 10*♦10♣* on the button, made it $3,300 to go.
Efan, sitting on J*♠J♣* in the big blind, went for a four-bet to $12,000. Perry was the only player to call and see a flop of 9*♥3♦3♠*.
“Both players probably like their hand,” Hustler Casino Live commentator David Tuchman said as no over cards hit the flop.
Efan led out for $15,000, and his opponent, drawing to just two outs, made the call. The turn was the 5*♣*, a blank. An all in bet was announced from Efan, who had the sports bettor covered.
Perry went into the tank for a bit before deciding to call off his remaining $36,050 stack. The 2*♥* on the river didn’t change anything, meaning Perry lost the $128,700 pot, the largest of the night. He then stood up from his seat down exactly $150,000 for the session before shaking his opponent’s hands and leaving Hustler Casino.
There were plenty of Perry haters in the chat on YouTube, and they seemed to thoroughly enjoy his abrupt exit from the game. Perry. after leaving the casino, tweeted: “When you make millions a month betting sports, you can donate $150k on the poker felt.” He then asked for a seat in the Hustler Casino LiveMillion Dollar Game, which takes place April 28 to May 2.
