Trailer Out for Dead Money Poker Crime Thriller Movie

Is the next great poker movie weeks away from being released? That’s hard to say, but the trailer is out for Dead Money, a poker related crime thriller starring Emile Hirsch.

Movie review sites claim the film will be heading straight to Video on Demand (VOD) on September 13, along with select US theaters. Dead Money, a Samuel Goldwyn Films creation, is about a down-on-his-luck poker player named Andy (Hirsch) who, along with his girlfriend Chloe (India Eisley), gets into trouble with the wrong people following their response to a poker home game robbery.

Taking a Look at the ‘Dead Money’ Trailer

The two-minute trailer gives away enough about the movie for viewers to get a solid sense for the plot without revealing too much. We’ll let you decide from the video below if you’re intrigued.

Dead Money, directed by Swiss filmmaker Luc Walpoth, appears to have some similarities to Rounders, widely considered the greatest poker movie of all-time. Both films fall under the crime thriller category and involve the main characters risking their lives playing sketchy underground/private poker games.

Coincidentally, the Dead Money trailer release comes a week after Rounders star Matt Damon hinted at the possibility of a sequel to the iconic 1998 poker flick.

Rounders II still seems unlikely any time soon, if ever. For now, those starved for a new poker movie may be interested in giving Dead Money a shot next month. Written by Josh Wilcox, Dead Money’s storyline appears to focus heavily on the home game robbery, which turns out to be masterminded by the host of the game.

When Andy discovers the truth, he returns to the scene of the crime to get his money back only to end up in a world of trouble with the wrong people. We can all find out how it all plays out on September 13.
