Junglemans Poker Rap Video is ... Something

Dan “Jungleman” Cates is a poker player, podcaster, and now a rapper who refers to himself as “BBC” — and he’s skilled at two of those things.

The future Poker Hall of Famer finished runner-up earlier this week in the Triton Poker Jeju Main Event for $3.5 million. He didn’t quite come out victorious — Huang Wenjie did — but he did spit some lyrics for the Triton audience during his postgame interview.

Poker Pro Turned Rapper?

Jungleman’s rhymes weren’t rhyming. His lyrics flowed about as smoothly as a clogged toilet, but it provided poker fans with some entertainment, or at least a chuckle.

“Some people would sit there and cry, that they didn’t make five point five … million dollars,” Cates rapped, referring to Wenjie’s payout.

Cates earned the biggest tournament score of his life in Jeju, bringing his live cashes to $18 million, according to The Hendon Mob. That includes two World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets in just five WSOP cashes. He’s more known, however, for crushing it online and in high-stakes cash games than his tournament success.

“May be mean in the streets, I’m still reading the sheets, like as G as you are, you can’t forget to study and work hard,” Cates shared a bit of poker advice in his rap song.

Jungleman should probably stick to his poker and podcasting career. He likely won’t ever earn comparisons to Dr. Dre or Eminem, although Vanilla Ice and Master P somehow made millions in that industry, so you just never know. But the ClubWPT Gold X account did give the poker legend some advice — get back in the studio.

The ClubWPT Gold account, likely run by video editor Thomas Keeling (aka “SrslySirius”), was referencing a parody rap video Keeling made years ago about the infamous “Durrrr Challenge” between Cates and Tom Dwan that never concluded.

Jungleman was up big in the heads-up online poker challenge, causing Dwan to quit playing. That led to a feud the two for years, but the poker pros have since reconciled.
