Australian Pro Makes Most of Return to Poker
Though his first cash dates back to the 2009 Aussie Millions, Obst took a break from poker for several years as he took a shot at professional tennis.
Since reemerging at the 2023 WSOP, he has made six final tables and had four victories across 15 cashes. He won his second bracelet in the $10,000 Limit Seven Card Stud Championship at the 2024 WSOP and went on to win the WPT Australia Championship for $398,488 later that year.
According to PokerGO updates, the winner was determined in a hand of Badugi that saw runner-up Aaron Sacks drawing dead against Obst’s six-five dugi.
Six-time bracelet winner Jason Mercier, who won the 2023 10-Game Championship, finished seventh for $56,000 as he came short of a second PGT title.
The final table also included British pro Philip Sternheimer (4th - $140,000) and two-time bracelet winners Nick Guagenti (6th - $84,000) and Maxx Coleman (8th - $56,000), who earlier in the series won Event #5: $10,200 Mori’s Mix for $700,000.

How many decks are used in poker?
how many decks are used in poker?
In most popular poker variants, such as Texas Hold’em and Omaha, a standard deck of 52 playing cards is used. Each deck contains four suits (hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades) and consists of 13 ranks (Ace, 2 through 10, and the face cards: Jack, Queen, and King).
However, it’s important to note that the number of decks used in poker can vary depending on the specific game or variation being played. For example, some poker tournaments or cash games may use multiple decks to speed up the gameplay or reduce the frequency of card shuffling. In such cases, it is common to use two or more decks that are shuffled together.
