Jacqueline Sherwood Takes Down Ladies Event as UK Open Explodes Into Action
Table Of Contents
The first two events of the 2025 Grosvenor UK Open have crowned their worthy champions as the two-week-long festival exploded into action. The £115 No-Limit Hold’em Ladies Championship and the £440 No-Limit Hold’em Mystery Bounty events are done and dusted, with Jacqueline Sherwood and Dale Wilson helping themselves to the respective titles.
Ninety-five women bought into the £115 Ladies Championship, creating a £9,020 prize pool that the top 12 finishers shared. The nine-handed final table was set after Christine Smith, Lisa McMahon, and bubble girl Caroline Cove bowed out on Day 2.
£115 Ladies Championship Final Table Results
Rank | Player | Prize |
---|---|---|
1 | Jacqueline Sherwood | £2,180 |
2 | Natalia Stoddard | £1,670 |
3 | Emma Wilkinson | £1,200 |
4 | Susan Adams | £850 |
5 | Carole Clarke | £580 |
6 | Sophie Stubbs | £500 |
7 | Peggy Crawford | £450 |
8 | Olivia Wainwright | £400 |
9 | Rose Cope | £350 |
Rose Cope’s time in the spotlight was limited because she crashed out in ninth place for a £350 score. Olivia Wainright followed Cope to the cashier’s desk to collect the £400 eighth-place prize before Peggy Crawford saw her latest deep run end in a seventh-place finish worth £450. Crawford won a WSOP Circuit ring in March 2024 when she took down the £250 Ladies event at the WSOPC UK in Nottingham.
Sixth place and £500 went to Sophie Stubbs. Last February, Stubbs finished third in the £550 GUKPT Cup in Manchester for a career-best £11,270. More recently, Stubbs came close to reaching the Women’s Winter Festival Main Event in London in November 2024.
Carole Clarke’s latest result was a fifth-place finish in the Ladies’ Championship. Clarke banked £580. Clarke finished fourth in the Women’s Championship event at the 2022 Goliath, third in a Seniors event at the 2023 GUKPT Coventry stop, and cashed in the Seniors event at the 2023 Goliath. It seems she has a penchant for these events.
The final three-figure score went to Susan Adams after her tournament ended in third place. The £850 Adams collected pushes her recorded live poker tournament winnings north of $40,000.
Emma Wilkinson came unstuck in third and collected £1,200, her second-largest haul behind the $2,345 Wilkinson received for a deep run in the 2018 WSOP Millionaire Maker. Like Stubbs, Wilkinson went deep in the Women’s Winter Main Event in November 2024.
Heads-up pitted Natalia Stoddard against Jacqueline Sherwood. No deal was struck, resulting in Stoddard banking £1,670 after finishing as the tournament’s runner-up. Stoddard’s demise meant Sherwood had outlasted 94 opponents and become the Ladies Championship champion, an accolade that came with a career-best £2,180.
Dale Wilson’s Hot Run Continues With UK Open Mystery Bounty Win
The £440 Mystery Bounty event at the Grosvenor UK Open attracted 501 entrants who built a £190,380 pot. Half that sum was split into mystery bounties, with the remaining 50% making up the regular prize pool. Of the latter, Dale Wilson scooped £16,820 courtesy of being the last man standing.
Wilson is on quite the run of results. Since late December 2024, Wilson has won a £250 DTD Christmas Cup for £8,645, finished fourth in The Opener at the GUKPT Coventry stop in January for £4,120, and finished fourth in the UK Poker Championships Main Event for £35,000. Now he has a UK Open title to his name.
Wilson defeated Michael Chappell heads-up for the title, resigning Chappell to the £12,990 runner-up prize. That prize represents a career-best for Chappell, edging out the £12,000 he secured for a third-place finish in a Grosvenor 25/50 event in Liverpool in January 2023.
Two of the nine finalists did quite well for themselves from the mystery bounty prize pool. Jordan Daniels fell in seventh for £2,840 but not before pulling £11,500 from mystery bounty envelopes, including one worth £10,000.
Man Li came in sixth for £3,850. However, the £8,000 bounty he claimed significantly increased his earnings from this tournament.
Shout out to Almat Madaliyev, who opened an envelope containing the £15,000 jackpot bounty.
