Nick Bowyer is the World Amateur Poker Champion for 2024
The 2024 Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) World Championship Of Amateur Poker (WCOAP) wrapped up at Dusk Till Dawn over the weekend, and what an incredible festival it was. Twenty-two events crowned their worthy champions, each now claiming to be the best amateur player in that format.
The biggest winner of the 2024 WCOAP was Nick Bowyer, who forever gets to call himself the 2024 Amateur Poker World Champion after he won the £210 WCOAP Main Event.
Every APAT WCOAP event is fiercely contested because the festival is akin to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) for amateur players. However, the most bragging rights and, of course, prize money are reserved for the Main Event.
This year’s WCOAP Main Event attracted 518 entrants, creating a £90,650 prize pool shared by the top 76 finishers. A min-cash weighed in at £350, with the top 18 finishers winning at least £1,000 and all nine finalists scooping at least £1,900.
2024 APAT WCOAP Main Event Final Table Results
Rank | Player | Prize |
---|---|---|
1 | Nick Bowyer | £15,000 |
2 | Daniel Fisher | £9,000 |
3 | James Morris | £6,000 |
4 | Matas Gerdziunas | £4,000 |
5 | Dane Tallen | £3,400 |
6 | Ricky Keshav | £2,900 |
7 | Jonathan Brown | £2,500 |
8 | Waheed Ashraf | £2,150 |
9 | Marius Mantu | £1,900 |
Marius Mantu busted in ninth place for £1,900, continuing the impressive start to his poker career. Mantu’s first recorded live cash came in April 2024. He has since racked up a dozen more cashes in low-stakes events, including nine final table appearances.
Dusk Till Dawn regular Waheed “Wadey” Ashraf fell in eighth for £2,150 before Jonathan Brown followed up his cash in the PokerStars UKIPT London Main Event with a seventh-place finish here, worth £2,500.
Ricky Kershav ran out of steam in sixth, a finish worth £2,900. Newcastle’s Dane Tallen joined the list of eliminated players, his fifth-place finish earning him £3,400. Tallen triumphed in the 2017 edition of the APAT UK Amateur Poker Championship Main Event but fell short in this event.
Tallen’s elimination left the 2024 WCOAP Main Event on the medal bubble; the top three finishers capture bronze, silver, and gold medals on top of their prize money. Matas Gerdziunas was the unfortunate soul who popped this secondary bubble. Although disappointed, Gerdziunas banked a career-best £4,000 for his efforts.
The bronze medal and £6,000 went to James Morris, which left Nick Bowyer heads-up against Daniel Fisher; both players were guaranteed their largest ever score. Eventually, Bowyer came out on top, resigning Fisher to the silver medal and £9,000, while claiming the gold medal, a commemorative bracelet, £15,000, and the title of 2024 APAT WCOAP Main Event champion.

Gholamreza Mohammadi was the biggest single winner outside of the Main Event, thanks to taking down the £350 High Roller. Some 107 players turned out for the High Roller, and Mohammadi outlasted them all, turning his £350 investment into an impressive £10,780.
A special mention goes to David Howard, who bagged two 2024 WCOAP titles. Howard clinched the £140 Limit Hold’em Championship and the £70 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout bracelets. Howard already had four APAT gold medals to his name, including the 2017 World title. Top work, that man.
