Jake Betts Captures 2025 UKPC Main Event Title and Career-Best £85270
Table Of Contents
Before the 2025 UK Poker Championships (UKPC) at Dusk Till Dawn, you would have been forgiven for not knowing much about Jake Betts. According to The Hendon Mob Database, Betts had seven in-the-money finishes between September 2019 and December 2024 totalling $5,260. Had is the operative word in that last sentence because Betts now has eight cashes, including an impressive victory worth a cool £85,270.
Betts was one of 1,332 entrants in the £560 UKPC Main Event. That bumper crowd created a £639,360 prize pool, smashing the £500,000 guarantee. The top 197 finishers won a slice of the pie, with such luminaries as Leon Louis, Daniel Rudd, Kully Sidhu, Patrice Brandt, Lorenc Boci, Timothy Chung, Brandon Sheils, and Leo McClean cashing on Day 2.
Day 2 ended with 23, and they returned for the final day’s action having locked up £3,000 for their efforts. By the time Joshua Boulton bowed out in 10th, setting the final table, £9,500 was the least any of the remaining players would take home.

Serial grinder Callum Gordon was the first finalist to find themselves without any chips. Gordon, fresh from a trip to Morocco for the WSOP Circuit held in Marrakech, recorded his first UK-based live score of 2025.
Steven Edgar’s maiden live score weighed in at £12,000, his reward for an eighth-place finish. Martin Donoghue finished seventh for £15,000, the second-largest prize of the Tamworth native’s live poker career.
Sixth place and £20,000 went to Ben Miller before Nikolai Mumut fell in fifth for a £26,455 addition to his bankroll. Like Edgar, this was Mumut’s first live score, according to the Hendon Mob Database.
In late December 2024, Dale Wilson won a £250 No-Limit Hold’em Christmas Cup at Dusk Till Dawn for a career-high £8,645. Wilson now has a £35,000 prize against his name after navigating to a fourth-place finish in the 2025 UKPC Main Event.
Cristinel Costin found himself with a similar story to Wilson. Costin triumphed in the inaugural Grosvenor Behemoth Main Event in mid-December 2024 for £43,700, which represented his best single haul. However, Costin’s exit in third in the UKPC Main Event came with £47,500, setting a new personal best, which takes his lifetime earnings past $250,000.
Costin’s demise left Betts heads-up against Luton’s David Lloyd. With over $360,000 in live earnings, Lloyd had vastly more experience in the live poker arena than Betts, but that sometimes counts for nothing.
The heads-up duo struck a deal that lessened the pay jump. The original payouts were £101,500 for first and £67,500 for the runner-up. Courtesy of the deal, Lloyd banked £83,730 when he fell at the final hurdle and finished second, leaving Betts to collect £85,270 and the 2025 UKPC Main Event trophy.

how many decks are used in poker?
In most popular poker variants, such as Texas Hold’em and Omaha, a standard deck of 52 playing cards is used. Each deck contains four suits (hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades) and consists of 13 ranks (Ace, 2 through 10, and the face cards: Jack, Queen, and King).
However, it’s important to note that the number of decks used in poker can vary depending on the specific game or variation being played. For example, some poker tournaments or cash games may use multiple decks to speed up the gameplay or reduce the frequency of card shuffling. In such cases, it is common to use two or more decks that are shuffled together.
