World Poker Tour Champion Sentenced To Prison For Deadly Car Crash - Poker News
After winning a World Poker Tour title in March, Dutch poker player Rutger Hennen will now be heading to prison for six months. The incarceration comes after he was convicted of driving his Porsche at a high rate of speed through an intersection in 2019, striking a 15-year-old girl on a bicycle and killing her instantly. Hennen appealed the case, but Dutch courts eventually settled on a six-month sentence and he was also barred from driving for two years. Prosecutors believe he had been using his cell phone at the time of the crime. Poker Career On Hold An entrepreneur and poker player, Hennen ran a company that sold chairs and recliners for the elderly. The company flourished and a private acuity company acquired the firm in 2023, moving Hennen’s net worth to €50 million, according to PokerNews. Hennen was also successful at the poker table, racking up lifetime live tournament winnings of $321,406 in a career dating back to 2011.
